People are Annoying
How monumental are these “Occupy” protests!
But come on, these people need to pick up after their, excuse my français, their effing shit.
Aren’t some of these protesters environmentalists?
Sanitation and health issues among the sites and surrounding areas.
Is it just me or are other people also starting to get annoyed by these protesters. It’s on the verge of...

Been pretty out of the world of wide web lately…but I’m alive! Will update soon.
In the meantime…
David Chung is a professor at the School of A&D at UofM. I never had the chance to work with him because most of the classes he taught were animation / illustration related. I always wanted to work with him and or even have some sort of meaningful conversation with him because...

Welcome to my house.
So…my parents did, what my sister and I like to call, a “reverse immigration” last night.
My dad was fixing and cleaning stuff up until the last minute…including weird stuff (as always) like setting a timer for our living room lights — “Dad. You’re not going on vacation. You’re moving out of here. Don’t set the timer.” It was weird.

Is it wrong to count down the days until my parents leave?
Don’t get me wrong…I’m so sad I have to say goodbye to my parents for another year (at the least!). Many hours have been spent in the past two weeks running errands for them and being their chauffeur (yes, my dad is now THAT elderly bald man driving 30 in a 35 mph zone) to squeeze in as much time as I can with them!

Home.
Hi all.
It’s been awhile since I’ve updated about Korea.
If you didn’t know, I’m back home in America now!
What was the last thing I wrote about? I don’t even remember and I’m too lazy and a bit too emotional about everything to look back.
I don’t think I ever discussed the mud festival. It was cool. I mean, I expected MUDDDDD but I only got mud. It...
After one long month of chaos,
I’m finally home.
It’s been a couple of days, and I’m not gonna lie. It’s been rough. Very rough.
I’m Korea-sick, missing friends and students, adjusting back to my comfortable, lazy, American lifestyle, with parents, with retired/transitioning parents, with a father who’s been out of the loop, with parents who are leaving the...

For all you boys out there. YES.
You are good.
I’m done.
After 12 months, I have completed the TaLK program.
I said my farewells all week, which was undoubtedly difficult. Today was my official last day of teaching (I actually did not teach) and said my official goodbyes to everyone.
I broke down in the teacher’s lounge while thanking them and whatnot and ended up having a mini tearfest with some of the other teachers. God I...
Beer Belly
Home now. Pretty tired.
It’s been a pretty blurry week.
Blurry, because I’ve been constantly meeting people and going out to say my farewells. And blurry because a lot of alcohol has been involved.
In the past week alone, I’ve developed a straight up beer belly. I feel like a giant loaf of bread right now. Ack.
On Friday, I went down to Cheongju to have some delicious gogi...
Started saying my goodbyes to my students yesterday, and it’s been incredibly hard.
Yeah, not gonna lie. It felt good to see some of them already break down and cry (“yeah that’s right, I’m your favorite person ever!” I thought to myself), but also hurt. Oh boy.
Today, I spoke in full Korean to my 6th graders for the first time. They were thoroughly impressed..but I...
Goin' back home.
I was hoping to stay for an extra couple of days to just kind of..hang around…
but I can’t!
My open-ended rountrip ticket is valid for just one year!
So I will be going back on August 1st, 6pm. I’m really really sad!
HAPPY BARTHDAY to my favorite Maria Hamburger with Cheese, my sister my friend my chupacabra!
I love you!
It is definitely the season of engagements.
It is annoying to be sitting in my own room, getting all squirmy and excited for some of my favorite sisters back in the States. This month alone, there have been more than a handful, the most recent being this morning, after the other one on Sunday. Holy cow.
I get all sweaty because I try to keep my cool and giggles contained....

HAHAHA.
Relivin’ last Friday.
It was one heck of a roller-coaster weekend, but it was good.
I’m truly thankful for all the people in my life.
This weekend in particular, my Jincheon mates who stuck with me all weekend (hangin’ out with the bartender ‘til close, long bus ride to Cheongju, Indian food…etc) and my other main man M. Really, I am. For people to be incredible understanding, patient,...
I’m sure Caitchu can agree with me when I say this, but our Korean lunches are simply the best (we share the same menu).
You should have picked up by now how obsessed I am with my school lunch..and I think my one week stay in America turned me into a..true Korean…cravin’ my rice and gook, daily.
Anyway,
it was a pretty tiring (but really good!) week.
I have one full week of...
The people in my town
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBXaupIJHr8
Today, my 5th and 6th graders concluded their unit on “occupations.” I already knew that one girl really wants to be a singer — she’s obsessed, absolutely obsessed, with Korean celebrities and is desperate to be a part of the entertainment industry one day. As a wrap-up (and I’m very curious), I had them discuss what they...

Enjoy God.
It’s been quite a week back at home, and I can’t believe it’s already time for me to head back.
I’ve done a lot of thinking about myself, family, relationships, future…etc in the midst of all the chaos. Some new, some reoccurring. One thing that has been the same is is that home is home. No matter how much I love Korea and how much of my heart I will leave behind in...
I can’t get into detail of what actually happened, but S—bin is safe. Far away. Hopefully happy with happy dreams.
It only takes one.
I’ve been having very proud moments lately…
There were times when I caught some of my students asking each other questions in English, or accidentally slipping a “hello” to a different teacher, or yelling at each other in English. Upon hearing them, I would come back to my little computer room and giggle by myself..
I think this morning topped all proud moments thus far.

My fifth graders overheard my conversation with the dance teacher how I’m leaving Korea in August and they flipped the eff out.
I think they thought I would remain as their English teacher for the rest of the schoolyear, so I can see how it was a shocker for them to hear that I’ll be gone in a month.
I had to keep my cool and the tear ducts try so I’m hiding in the computer...
I got scolded by an old man today, and I survived!
I briefly left school to buy something from the market across the street, and since it was blazing hot today, I took off my cardigan the moment I left school grounds. I should have known that even if my sleeveless top wasn’t really scandalous, it was definitely not conservative from the eyes of a shigol-man. On my way back, there were a couple of gramps just chillin, staring at me. One of...
In Busan!
Currently at the KTX station in Busan, being a good girlfriend and waiting for the boy.
I am here with my Jincheon fam to celebrate Louis’ big birthday and I am so excited! Feels like I am on a mini spring break vacation only without the bod and the cruise and the loud white people. However, there will be booze, lots of it for Louis, and we wi make sure to be the loud foreigners…not...
Where are you?
This is S—bin. She is in the third grade.
I think I’ve mentioned this student a couple of times in previous entries. She’s quite the trouble-maker. But she doesn’t mean to be one. Stomach punches, surprise attacks, carrying English teacher, hugs, and burying of face into English teacher’s clean white shirts are her specialty. She’s quite a handful, I tell...
"Honey, I love you!"
On June 9th, my dad will be participating in the retirement ceremony for all United Methodist retirees of the greater Chicagoland area. During the ceremony, he will have the special opportunity to give a “short” speech to the congregation of lay members, deacons, pastors (ordained, interning, elders…etc), and even church members who will be attending this annual conference.
He...

My co-scholars this semester are very nice…it’s a bonus that one of them has a car.
However, it’s very difficult not to compare them with my previous co-scholars, whom I got along with pretty well..They were great co-teachers and helped me tremendously in terms of communicating clearly with the students and managing the classroom. I think it’s the most difficult to be...
Have you ever tried Dotori Mook Gook? (도토리 묵국 -Acorn Starch Jelly (cold) soup)
Not only is it healthy, it is so delicious.

우리 나라 만세
Every Wednesay morning, there is an all-school assembly…it’s usually for special announcements and/or presentation of awards.
Now, to be quite frank…my students are not the smartest kids in the country with the best grades (with an exception of a handful - I have incredible hope for them. Seoul University? Oh yeah, I honestly think so). However, they are busy with so many extra...
